Z Outlet Warehouse Full of Surprises

Now here’s a place you would have zoomed right by if you hadn’t gotten a reconnaissance report first.

I might have named Z Warehouse on Lorna Road in Hoover ”Cheap Imports 2 U” because that’s what it is. Half of the merchandise is sort of specialized, including everything from stretch jean-like tights (don’t try it, anyone) to do-rags, dream catchers and painted silk fans. Some of the oversize plastic jewelry is just plain garish. But there are a few little gems in there, and most things are only a buck, which seems to be the “happy price” of our time.

Aisle after aisle overflows with jewelry, scarves, caps (flat billed or fitted) and slippers. In fact, it looks like an overwhelming jewelry explosion.

If you have a taste for adventure you may find some surprises. I certainly wouldn’t attempt to accessorize a costume, buy beads from a craft shop, or host a princess-themed party without checking here first. All $1:

  • z jewelry.jpg
    • Crystal bead stretch bracelets
    • Statement rings made of glass, resin, or beads
    • Jade-like bracelets in realistic colors
    • Hello Kitty and other little girls’ jewelry sets
    • Black visors with single initial monograms for afternoons at the ballfield

If you go, have an explorer’s attitude and you’ll be entertained even if you leave empty-handed.

Fair warning: Shipley Do-nuts is just down the road…
