Food for Fines in September at BPL

Here’s a sensible trade: Birmingham Public Libraries will waive $1 in fines for each non-perishable food item you bring in, up to $10 per cardholder, during the month of September. If you have a lingering fine due to books that were found under beds or in the depths of toy boxes after the summer reading program, here’s your chance to clear your name and benefit Birmingham food banks.

It should go without saying that the food can’t have passed its expiration date, but as a busy mom who may not have carefully checked the pantry lately (quick, what vintage is your Ranch dressing bottle?), I mention this so you don’t have to be embarrassed at the check-out counter.
