Birmingham pediatric dentists suggest that a child’s first visit to the dentist occur around his/her 1st birthday. The purpose is to establish good habits early and a comfort level with the dentist. We have many pediatric dentists in Birmingham. Things to consider when selecting your Birmingham pediatric dentist: (1) Suitability of the office environment – many have smaller tools, chairs and look like a toy store. (2) The length of employment for the dental hygienists (preferably your child will have the same hygienist each visit). (3) The patience of the staff (hint: it’s the hygienists you spend the most time with). (4) Office schedule – it may not be hard to get your 1 yr old to the dentist at 10am but you’ll find it more difficult with school-age children.

Pediatric dentistry has come along way since the dental visits of my childhood. My children visited their Birmingham pediatric dentist beginning at the age of 2 and they love it. The waiting area is full of toys and games. It is so fun that I had to set a timer to get my 4 yr old to leave the dentist’s office. This may be the first generation that will not understand the dread of the dental visit. Kudos to the entire pediatric dental community — it’s also great for Birmingham Moms.
