Summer Camps

Birmingham Children's Theatre is a treat for all kids and parents in Birmingham.  Theatre performances occur year round and can be found on the BirminghamMom.com Calendar. BCT host Spring Break Camps, Summer Workshops and Birthday Parties.   

Registration is going on now for the 2011-12 season.  Click here for a schedule! CDF offers dance classes for ages 1 to adult in addition to several wonderful Summer Camps and a Youth Theatre program.   CDF classes are creative, student-centered and committed to community. When you participate in a CDF class, you also support their tremendous outreach efforts bringing the arts to local schools.  

The Courtyard Cafe & Bakery is full of smiling children at birthday parties and summer camps!   Call 424-3406 to book your child's birthday party where they will learn to bake what they eat!  
This summer children ages 6-17 can enjoy a creative cooking camp.  From 9am - 3pm daily, kids will learn to make foods from around the world, polish their table manners and experiment with creative garnishments to present their dishes.   Camps are the week of June 4th (ages 6-8), June 11th (ages 9-12) and June 18th (ages 13-17).   Sign up now!

The new Ruffner Mountain Nature Center is open and it's beautiful.  This is a wonderful place to hike and enjoy a picnic near the city.  It also provides a glimpse into Birmingham's history and knowledge of native plants and animals.  We enjoyed a wonderful field trip for 6 yr olds and a great 1/2 mile geological hike.  They have many events that are included on the BirminghamMom.com calendar.

The YMCA offers countless opportunities for Moms to keep themselves and their families healthy and active. YMCA branches are located throughout the Birmingham area and offer classes, childcare, summer camp opportunities, sports camps, Spring Break camps and a wide variety of opportunities.

Generally for grade 5 - 8, depending on the course. ASFA offers summer camp programs in creative writing, theatre arts, math, science and music.   

Aldridge Gardens is offering five, 5-day camps this summer involving nature and art.  Check out their website.

Enjoy theatre and visual arts camp for all ages at ArtPlay.  This is a new, exciting venue for the arts in Birmingham.

Tailored for children in grades 2-7, this is a two week, half day program offered at Samford University.  Children will learn about Latin, Roman culture and mythology.  Full details available in this brochure

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens are one of the more exceptional locations in the area.  It is free of charge and a great place to get outside with the kids and a stroller.  They host many educational events and summer camps.  Birmingham Moms also enjoy the annual plant sale.   And, this is a favorite spot for photographing children.   

For ages k-12, the Birmingham Museum of Art offers one of the best art camps in the city.  Apply early to get your spot -- these camps fill up.

From a local mom:  "Birthday party at the zoo for a 5 yr old and everyone had a great time.   Refreshments were provided and served.  The kids got to touch some animals, ride the train and the carousel. No clean up so I go to enjoy the party with everyone else."

The lessons of Girl Scouts seem more relevant today than it did when I was a Girl Scout. For my 6yr old, one year of Girl Scouts has already taught her to think about the larger community, to respect others and to leave things better than she found them. Don't forget the many summer camp opportunities!

Mountain Brook Gymnastics offers a half day or full day camp option for 10 weeks this summer.  

Alley Bulka (aka the Wacky Nanny) is fantastic and has a following of devoted families.  The camps run weekly, depending on age, from 9am - 1pm.  $125 / child
