The new Ruffner Mountain Nature Center is open and it's beautiful. This is a wonderful place to hike and enjoy a picnic near the city. It also provides a glimpse into Birmingham's history and knowledge of native plants and animals. We enjoyed a wonderful field trip for 6 yr olds and a great 1/2 mile geological hike. Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama
The lessons of Girl Scouts seem more relevant today than it did when I was a Girl Scout. For my 6yr old, one year of Girl Scouts has already taught her to think about the larger community, to respect others and to leave things better than she found them. Don't forget the many summer camp opportunities!
