Gross Out Day Camp by Fresh Air Family
Summer Day Camp
Gross Out Camp is a science / outdoor camp created by Fresh Air Family hosted at Barber Sports or the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, depending on the week. This 9am-5pm camp keeps kids outside. Founder Verna Gates says, "We guarantee dirty, tired children at the end of each day." I sent my daughter to the botanical gardens camp and can also add – happy to that list. At $200 for non-members ($225 for members), this full day camp is also one of the most reasonable. Check out their 2014 Brochure and Calendar.

The new Ruffner Mountain Nature Center is open and it's beautiful. This is a wonderful place to hike and enjoy a picnic near the city. It also provides a glimpse into Birmingham's history and knowledge of native plants and animals. We enjoyed a wonderful field trip for 6 yr olds and a great 1/2 mile geological hike. They have many events that are included on the BirminghamMom.com calendar.

The camp takes three field trips every week to great places like Noccalula Falls, Rickwood Caverns, Southern Museum of Flight, Ruffner Mountain and much more. They get great meals prepared by an in house chef and a nutritious snack. My son had fun and learned a lot. I can't think of anything else they could pack into the time they have. Music, dance, etiquette, and financial education are offered. And the camp is open from 7am-6pm Truly a great value!
