Tribe Spirit camps combine traditional summer camp activities with the excitement of cheerleading, dance and tumbling!  Weekly camp themes offer a fun and exciting twist on daily activities that are sure to make every camper leave with a smile.  Campers participate in 1-hour cheer/dance lessons and 1-hour of tumbling instruction.  No experience required to participate.  All levels – beginner to advanced, male and female welcome.  Check out Wacky Wednesday camps for prek ages.   

Gross Out Camp is a science / outdoor camp created by Fresh Air Family hosted at Barber Sports or the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, depending on the week.  This 9am-5pm camp keeps kids outside.  Founder Verna Gates says, "We guarantee dirty, tired children at the end of each day."  I sent my daughter to the botanical gardens camp and can also add – happy to that list.   At $200 for non-members ($225 for members), this full day camp is also one of the most reasonable.    Check out their 2014 Brochure and Calendar.

Highlands School Higher Degree of Learning does not end when the school year is over. We offer a quality summer program as well. Summer at Highlands offers challenging activities, talented teachers and quality facilities that you have come to expect from Highlands School. Camp is open to all students Kindergarten through the 8th grade, regardless of the school they attend during the school year.

The new Ruffner Mountain Nature Center is open and it's beautiful.  This is a wonderful place to hike and enjoy a picnic near the city.  It also provides a glimpse into Birmingham's history and knowledge of native plants and animals.  We enjoyed a wonderful field trip for 6 yr olds and a great 1/2 mile geological hike.  They have many events that are included on the BirminghamMom.com calendar.

Aldridge Gardens is offering five, 5-day camps this summer involving nature and art.  Check out their website.

Courses in theatre, photography, math, english, soccer and basketball for kids of all ages. Credit courses available.   

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens are one of the more exceptional locations in the area.  It is free of charge and a great place to get outside with the kids and a stroller.  They host many educational events and summer camps.  Birmingham Moms also enjoy the annual plant sale.   And, this is a favorite spot for photographing children.

From a local mom:  "Birthday party at the zoo for a 5 yr old and everyone had a great time.   Refreshments were provided and served.  The kids got to touch some animals, ride the train and the carousel. No clean up so I go to enjoy the party with everyone else."

DISCO is offering an entire summer of half day camps to foster creativity, exploration and writing at the most reasonable rate in town – $90/week.  Check out the interesting weekly topics.  The camps are from 1pm-5pm each day and there are several weeks geared toward high school aged campers (grades 8-12).

The camp takes three field trips every week to great places like Noccalula Falls, Rickwood Caverns, Southern Museum of Flight, Ruffner Mountain and much more. They get great meals prepared by an in house chef and a nutritious snack. My son had fun and learned a lot. I can't think of anything else they could pack into the time they have. Music, dance, etiquette, and financial education are offered. And the camp is open from 7am-6pm Truly a great value!

The North Shelby Baptist Church offer music lessons in piano, violin, voice, drums and guitar as well as group lessons in ballet, tap, jazz and hip-hop.  They are offering several camps this summer.  

New Camp — The Red Pincushion is offering half day camps for children ages 8 and up to teach the art of sewing.  Campers will make lavender sachets, pillows with an applique, book covers and more.  

Become a Turkey Creek Junior Naturalist — 3 summer sessions:  June 2nd-6th; June 9th -13th and June 16th -20th.  Class size will be small at 15 children.  Make reservations soon.  9am-3pm; $225/child.  

Alley Bulka (aka the Wacky Nanny) is fantastic and has a following of devoted families.  The camps run weekly, depending on age, from 9am – 1pm.  $125 / child
