A Fairy Tale Evening in Birmingham

If a trip to Disney World wasn’t in the budget this year, you can still visit with fantastic characters, dine in style, and enjoy an evening with your family at Birmingham’s own version of a Magic (City) Kingdom, the Fairy Tale Ball benefitting Childcare Resources.

This event has been a hot ticket in Birmingham because of its fun theme, which appeals to all ages. Who doesn’t want to explore a life-size pirate ship or have tea with Alice and the Mad Hatter? And how often do you get to bring your kids to a fundraising event that thrills them with a hug from a princess?

The ball takes place Saturday, August 28th, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the downtown Sheraton ballroom. There’ll be hors de ouvres, dancing, cocktails for grown ups and a candy “bar” for children. Tickets are $70 for adults, $15 for kids under 12, or $150 for a family ticket that admits four (up to 2 adults). Remember, you won’t require a sitter since the kids will be out with you. That’s probably forty bucks – plus a pizza delivery – that you can put toward your ticket purchase instead.

If you don’t already know about Childcare Resources, allow us to introduce you.  Childcare Resources is a partner agency of the United Way of Central Alabama and serves Jefferson, Shelby, Blount and Walker counties with assistance to parents in:

  • Locating childcare options
  • Training childcare professionals
  • Providing parent education services
  • Offering financial assistance to low-income, working families

The Childcare Resources website has all sorts of helpful information and links for parents (such as talking to your children about traumatic world events) and childcare providers (free training sessions toward accreditation).

Bring your kids to the Fairy Tale Ball costumed in all their flame-retardant polyester regalia, and have your camera ready for some unforgettable photo ops.
