This event is such a pleasant night for enjoying the Alabama Symphony Orchestra in an idyllic atmosphere on the Botanical Gardens lawn. Your kids have plenty of room to dart around while you can lounge at “home base,” i.e., a picnic blanket. Something about seeing a symphony performance outdoors makes it more intimate and casual, yet hearing the music under an expanse of sky and trees makes it larger-than-life, a sort of offering to the universe.
This is your best chance to hear the symphony without the expense of a sitter, the effort of dressing up (although don’t get me wrong, you’ll still want to look casual-yet-fetching), or tickets to keep up with. You will, however, need reservations, which include your dinner of Jim-n-Nick’s bar-be-que.
Visit Symphony30.org to purchase tickets, which are $25 per individual and $60 per family, with proceeds benefiting the Symphony’s family and education programs. That’s not a bad deal for an evening out with your family, beautiful music, and a canopy of stars.
Note: The weekend really starts on the 24th with the Greek Festival, Sidewalk and other events. If you’re in town, it will be a good time.
