Do you remember the Herdman’s from “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”? This is a beloved childhood book and now also a play. Birmingham Children’s Theatre is currently presenting it’s own lively interpretation of this holiday favorite and the last show is this Saturday, December 11th at 2pm and 6pm.
The show is funny and boasts a cast almost entirely comprised of local children. The story itself evokes the true meaning of the holidays and will most certainly fill you and your family with the spirit of Christmas (the one that doesn’t include loads of gifts and wrapping paper). It’s a delightful family evening and supports a wonderful non-profit. Purchase your tickets online at the Birmingham Children’s Theatre website. It ‘s also a bargain with adult tickets at $10 and children’s tickets at $8.
The December 11th show is at 6pm and the theatre is located at the BJCC. Entry and exit to the theatre is actually quite convenient and getting to the BJCC really couldn’t be easier given its access from Hwy 280/31 and I20/59. I am always surprised by how easy it is to get in and out. There is a flat parking lot on 19th Street just across from the entrance for $8 per car. I’ve often had good luck finding free on street parking as well.
While downtown, consider family dining at the Cantina (at Pepper Place) or at Moe’s Original BBQ in Lakeview. And, if you are up for a more expensive option, enjoy some of Birmingham’s finest restaurants like Cafe Dupont, Chez FonFon, or Twenty-Six. While a full dinner might be too much for the family, it would be fun to see the BCT show and then enjoy a dessert at a ‘fancy’ restaurant. Kids know when they get to do something special and will remember it.
We hope your holiday season is filled with many fun memories.
