Since we’ve reminisced about our beloved Parisian, it seems only fair to continue a walk down memory lane. A BirminghamMom and lifelong resident shared www.BirminghamRewound.com with me, a fascinating glimpse into how the city has changed.
If you hang out with anyone who grew up in Birmingham, you’ve heard many references to landmarks and objects that haven’t been in existence for years but remain significant on these folks’ mental maps.
How often has someone mentioned “the curve” in Homewood (no longer a curve but a “T” intersection)? How about the confusion over roads (“No, not Highway 31; I said OLD Highway 31″). Who can distinguish among Rocky Ridge, Old Rocky Ridge, and Rocky Ridge Ranch roads? And yet we make fun of Atlanta for naming every other street after a Peachtree.
