Let me say, Magic City Harvest’s “Empty Bowls” lunch is one of my favorites. It’s so simple. For $15, you can enjoy a lunch of soup, bread and a dessert which in turn helps to fund an innovative food recovery program that reduces waste and feeds the hungry.
Simply put, this non-profit manages a group of trucks that collects leftover food from cafeterias, restaurants, and large events and then distributes that food to shelters and food banks throughout the city. As a result, this group accomplishes two important goals: (1) Reducing waste and (2) Feeding the hungry.
Supporting this group is also easy and very rewarding. On April 28th from 11am to 1pm at the St. Vincent’s Conference Center, enjoy a $15 lunch with your friends, office colleagues or your kids and take home your own bowl painted by members of local school groups and churches. It is a really casual event – come from work or home – just fill your bowl and in turn fill that of another.
