The invitation to the Childcare Resources Annual Fairy Tale Ball arrived today! I intended to write this article compelling Birmingham families to attend by way of practical appeals like, “You don’t have to book a babysitter” or “It’s much cheaper than visiting Disney.” These appeals are, of course, true. However, I missed the most important reason – your child will LOVE the ball and remember attending.
Upon receipt of the Fairy Tale Ball invitation today, my daughter begged me to attend again this year and proceeded to create and tape notes throughout the house that said, “Fairy Tale Ball Bring Me”. She attached the notes to prominent locations like the television, refrigerator door, my pillow and several doors. We got the message.
The 2011 event will honor the Guy K. Mitchell, Jr. family and include the following (and more):
- Storytelling booth akin to Jasmine’s tent in the desert
- Peter Pan’s life size ship
- The awakening of Sleeping Beauty
- Star Wars storm troopers
- Larger than life dessert and candy table
The evening will be full of surprises as princesses and your favorite storybook characters are introduced and come to life.
The event will be held from 6pm-9pm at the Sheraton Ballroom near the BJCC. Parking was ample last year under the interstate and in adjacent parking decks. Enjoy a fantastic silent auction boasting items like a 10-day vacation in St. Bart’s and beach condos, music by Just a Few Cats, food and drinks (a sippy cup for a small child would be nice and is acceptable).
Proceeds benefit Childcare Resources – a group dedicated to ensuring the availability and quality of childcare in Birmingham.
Purchase tickets here and plan to attend this magical night. [Tickets are $175 for a family of 4; Individual Adult tickets are $80 and individual child tickets are $15.]
Bring your camera.
