Harry Potter Read-a-thon July 22nd-24th

Join the coolest, kid-friendly fundraiser in Birmingham next weekend, July 22nd – 24th, at the Emmet O’Neal Library.  Desert Island Supply Co. (also known as DISCO) is hosting a Harry Potter Read-A-Thon to raise money for their incredible non-profit work providing free creative writing programs for kids in the Birmingham area.

During this ‘wicked weekend’, they, with your help, will read all 748 pages of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows continuously and out loud. Participants sign up to read for one 10 minute slot and then ask friends and family to sponsor them.  The Read-A-Thon is open to all ages. You can sign up individually or as a family / team.  Ultimately, you only need to be present to read for 10 minutes that weekend — at a time that works for you. There will also be fun events at the library during the Read-A-Thon, including a Butterbeer stand and costume contest.

What a fun way to encourage your child to read, to support a great organization that helps other kids in our area and have fun at the same time.   Be there!

Please register and find out more about the weekend here.   Email us or leave a note on our Facebook page and we’ll provide your family with a $5 sponsorship.
