Let’s give credit to the organizers of the Kick’n Chick’n Wing Festival, who have the savvy to plan an event on a football weekend when most of our teams are playing on the road. Knowing we’re in the habit of popping up tents and icing down coolers near a stadium, they just declared a party in Homewood and made it easier than ever for us to tailgate.
This Saturday, Oct 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. streets surrounding 1850 29th Avenue in Homewood will be closed down for a street party of the caliber Birmingham tailgaters demand. This chicken wing cook-off features some of the best restaurants in town, not all of which even specialize in wings (turns out pizza joints have competition-worthy wings on their menus, too).
Of course there will be big-screen televisions for watching all the SEC games and a play area for the kids. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door, with kids 10 and under free.
Proceeds benefit Magic Moments, which fills the non-medical wishes of chronically ill children. As moms, we know that every magic moment for a child is also a magic moment for his/her parents.
You might as well be enjoying the kick’n chick’n here and having a good time. You know nothing else will get done with games going on all day.
