Find: Pet Adoption for a Steal, Just in Time for Holidays

This year you could have your Christmas card photo with the kids holding a new bundle of joy. A furry bundle of joy, that is, with none of your usual worries of how to pay for college tuition in 18 years.

The Shelby County Humane Society is offering a reduced adoption fee of only $31 from October 18th through the 29th. This is an unbelievable deal! Each pet will already be spayed or neutered, have up-to-date vaccinations, and a microchip. That’s pretty much everything except a red ribbon for it’s neck. Oh, wait -Shelby County residents who adopt will also receive a collar and I.D. tag – so you truly are all set.

If you have a pet or grew up with one, you know how a pet can become an essential part of the family when it is truly adopted, meaning the family (that starts with you, mom) makes a commitment to train and assimilate him or her into their lives. There is nothing that compares to the joy they bring if you make it through the exasperating puppy/kitten phase, and even that is such a short time compared to the life of a pet.

As a bonus, animals from the Humane Society are often full-grown and already house trained, so you get to bypass those phases aready and just get to enjoying your pet’s company.

Check out some of the Humane Society’s available pets online or call 205-669-3916 ext. 21 and consider how you could spend this and many more holiday seasons making memories with your new pet. Be sure to go through the list of questions to see if your family is ready for a pet. It’s a big commitment, even without the college tuition. But if you make the leap, you’ll wonder how you ever made it before your (furry) bundle arrived.
