The only amusement that compares to seeing kids in costume is seeing pets decked out for Halloween, and the more ridiculous, the better. Since we moms have dressed 12 month olds, we can fully appreciate a creature that will actually wear a headpiece instead of constantly tugging to pull it off.
The Shelby County Humane Society will be hosting its first Pet Costume Contest at the Riverchase Galleria on Saturday, October 29th, at 2:30 p.m. To enter your pet, arrive by 1:00 p.m. outside the Belk Store on the main level, and bring an in-kind donation for the Humane Society (cat litter, canned cat food, canned dog food, bedding, etc.).
Shelby County residents who enter their pet will receive a collar and I.D. tag, and three contest winners will receive a special gift bag from Generation Dog. The overall winner will receive one week of in-house sitting from Bob the Big Dog, who we have already featured as a mom-recommended pet sitting service.
Even if you aren’t entering your pet in the contest, your kids will love seeing pets dressed up for show. Admit it, it’s fun for you, too. You can have a full day at the Galleria on the 29th, with lunch at the food court, a spin around the carousel, and a stroll outside Belk to get a glimpse of the pets. Naptime will be a breeze after all that excitement.
Shelby County Humane Society is offering reduced adoption fees from October 18th – 29th.
