Moss Rock Festival, A Big Green Dot Under a Red Canopy of Leaves

The Moss Rock Festival is like a community-wide celebration of fall, nature, and the good intentions you had when you were a boy/girl scout.

This Saturday and Sunday afternoon, November 5th and 6th, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.,  the Village Green at the Preserve in Hoover will be filled with music, food, and kids’ activities while the perimeter is lined with artists’ tents and green-living vendors.

This year promises to be especially fun for your older kids, with an opportunity to try geocaching and biking. As usual, there will be inspiration for green living, sustainability and resourcefulness. Vendors will be on hand to share ideas and showcase products.

Moss Rock Festival takes you back to your scouting days and the wonder of planting a tree or smearing pinecones with peanut butter and bird seed. Did those efforts offset all the disposable diapers you’ve since discarded? You shudder.

But the message is that you can make choices, both everyday (reusable water bottle) and occasionally (sustainably harvested wood floors for your home) that can make good on your intentions to respect the environment, even when you are rushed and no longer in the festival frame of mind.

Shuttle buses are provided from Regions Park. Be prepared to return with your hands full of the kids’ art projects, a few publications, and perhaps even some Christmas gifts purchased from the artists’ tents, which display an amazing variety of products.
