Recycle Your Christmas Tree in Birmingham – How and Where?

Christmas trees will be ‘undecorated’ all over the city in the next week and you may wonder… how can I responsibly dispose of my tree?  Here is a list of locations and information about Christmas Tree recycling in the Birmingham metro area.

In Birmingham and Gardendale, trees can set at the curb and picked up as a part of the regular debris removal pick-up schedule.  Trees will be chipped and used in landscaping materials.

The following drop-off locations are available:

Jefferson County

Mountain Brook:

–           Mountain Brook Community Church

–          Birmingham Zoo –  Dec. 26th through January 6, 2012.  4th Annual Tree Recycling Event, a partnership of the Mountain Brook Tree Commission and the Birmingham Zoo.  Trees can be dropped off in the parking lot of the Zoo’s picnic area during regular hours.  Trees should be as ‘clean’ as possible.  Garlands, wreaths etc are not accepted.

Vestavia:

–           Scout Square (known as The Christmas Tree Lot) across from Publix Shopping Center on Highway 31.  Trees are used to nurture fish habitats on Alabama Power owned lake property.

Homewood:

–           Parking lot at Dale & Grace Streets – Trees can be dropped at the parking lot from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. December 26 through January 7thThe trees will be recycled and the mulch will be used for paths at the Homewood City School’s Community Garden.

–          Homewood Public Library –  Trees can be dropped off in the designated areas in the back rear parking lot.

Shelby County

Oak Mountain Area:

–          Heardmont Park on Cahaba Valley Road

Chelsea, AL:

–          Chelsea City Hall – during regular hours now through January 4, 2012

Columbiana, AL:

–          Ray Building off Highway 70 in Columbiana
