Lucy and Ruby’s Brainy Day – May 3rd

Lucy and Ruby are sisters.  Lucy and Ruby are young (ages 9 and 7, respectively), precious and loved deeply.  They are obviously action-oriented, creative girls with a big heart for good.   Lucy and Ruby also bear the loss of their father, Scott Harris – brain cancer last Fall.

Prior to his death but in response to the illness, Lucy and Ruby hosted a lemonade stand to raise money and awareness for UAB Brain Cancer research and patient support services, specifically an organization named Wheeling for Hope.   The love of their friends and family poured out (in addition to a fair amount of lemonade) and the lemonade stand turned into an event.   They raised $3,000 for their “daddy’s hospital” that day.

This year, their imagination and vision has grown and it’s officially AN EVENT.  Lucy and Ruby’s Brainy Day.   You can count on lemonade and refreshments but also activities planned and organized by Lucy, Ruby, their mother and devoted friends.   This is a free family event (although I hope the opportunity for donations will be taken seriously) and a day to help this family honor their father’s memory, support families that currently seek treatment and to further research that took their grandfather and father.

Lucy and Ruby’s Brainy Day is May 3rd from 10am to 2pm at the New Merkle Community Center (4405 Dolly Ridge Road) parking and shuttle from Philadelphia Baptist Church.
